The Lord Prepares the Way – Joshua 2

When Joshua led the people of Israel into the Promised Land, he sent two spies to look over the land, especially the powerful city of Jericho. In Jericho, the spies would have been killed if not for the help of the prostitute Rahab. God had already prepared the heart of this prostitute to desire a relationship with God. In verse 11 Rahab states “the Lord your God is God in heaven above and on the earth below.” Rahab had heard the stories of how God had saved His people from slavery in Egypt and protected them in the wilderness. She wanted to join God’s family as a result. When the two spies return to give their report to Joshua, they shared “the Lord has surely given the whole land into our hands; all the people are melting in fear because of us” (v.24). So we see God prepared the way for the two spies to be saved by Rahab in Jericho. God also prepared the way for His people to conquer the other nations in Israel.

God loves to prepare the way for His people to move forward. But here is the one thing you have to keep in mind if you want to experience God preparing the way for you. God directs us to seek His will first. The two spies and Joshua were following the Lord’s will to enter the Promised Land. What is God’s will for you? The Bible is full of directions to show you God’s will. You only need to read it, to pray about the directions that you hear from the Lord, then move forward in faith. God might lead you to go take a meal to someone who is sick or to feed a homeless person. The Lord may guide you to adopt a homeless child or to share your faith with a neighbor. Wherever you sense the will of God in your life, move forward in faith…remembering that if our God can prepare Israel to defeat Jericho, He can easily prepare the way for you to make a great impact for Him today!
