“I have read the Bible a lot but I have never taken the time to study and observe the details in a passage.” This was just one of many similar testimonies from the Young Life leaders today. Some of the leaders admitted that they did not read the Bible often because they had never been shown how to study this wonderful living book. After our day of training and practicing observing details in Scripture passages, we heard many of the leaders share their excitement regarding what they were able to now see in Scripture. “I am going to study the Bible all of the time now that I understand how to do this!” was another common testimony. We encouraged the leaders to not only continue to practice what they learned, but also to take these lessons and share with the teenagers they are discipling in their Young Life small groups. We are so excited about how the Lord will multiply the impact of our lessons and Bible study training among the Young Life groups across South Africa!
After each teaching session on Bible Study Methods, we sent the young people out to practice the new lessons alone with God and their Bibles. They asked the Lord to give them personal applications. We then returned to our small groups and shared what we were learning. As we are teaching these leaders important spiritual formation skills that they will share with many more new believers, ask the Lord to reinforce each lesson so powerfully that these leaders will be able to reproduce our teaching with many thousands of new believers across South Africa in the days ahead. Ask God to bless our final moments together over the next day which include more teaching, alone time listening to the Lord, and a footwashing ceremony.
